Igor Medvedev was awarded the Moscow Government Prize for Young Scientists

Medvedev I Head of S.L. Soloviev Tsunami Laboratory of Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS PhD (Physical and Mathematical Sciences) Igor Medvedev was awarded the the Moscow Government Prize.

On January 18, 2023, on the eve of Science Day, the names of the young scientists who won the competition for the Moscow Government Prizes for young scientists in 2022 were announced.

Igor Medvedev received an award for the cycle of works "Investigation of fluctuations in the level of inland and marginal seas in the range from minutes to centuries", becoming a laureate in the nomination "Earth Sciences".

In a series of works, Igor Medvedev describes new ideas about dynamic processes in the shelf and coastal zone of the Russian seas. Based on the analysis of coastal observations, satellite altimetry and numerical modeling, the mechanisms of formation of level fluctuations in inland and marginal seas in the range of periods from minutes to tens of years have been studied in detail for the first time.

Regime and extreme characteristics of such dynamic processes as tides, seiches, storm surges, etc. have been obtained. Igor Medvedev has published about 40 papers on this topic in leading international and Russian scientific journals. The results obtained can be used to predict dangerous marine phenomena and to ensure the safety of the population in the coastal zones of the seas.
